Stud Services

We have several excellent, proven huacaya alpaca males that have progeny on the ground for your inspection.    We also have some recently imported males with superb genetics that have cria on the way.

In addition to the males that we own, several males from the Ambersun, Andamooka and Compass herds in South Australia are available to service your females.  While some of these herdsires are just passing through on their way to Europe, others will remain on our farm indefinitely.

While we offer the typical "live birth guarantee" with matings to our males, we were the first to offer a "female cria guarantee".  If you use any of our stud males to service any of your females, you qualify for this guarantee. If the cria resulting from any such mating is a male, and you would prefer a female, you may exchange that male cria for another mating at no charge. We give you up to six weeks to decide if you would like to take up this option. We think, however, that you will be so satisfied with any cria sired by our boys that you aren't likely to take up our offer.  Unless otherwise agreed, you'll need to bring your female to our farm for the exchange mating.

If you do wish to exchange your male cria for another mating, you may use any of our herdsires and/or use the free mating on a different female. There is no limit to the number of times it takes to get a female cria and every cria comes with our four-day live birth guarantee.

The following herdsires are available for your inspection by appointment:

We are very pleased that Ambersun Alpacas (South Australia) has agreed to let us use Epsilon for matings while he is in New Zealand.  Epsilon came to New Zealand with a dozen other males, all destined for the UK.  While he could easily have passed screening, we convinced the folks at Ambersun to leave him here, at least until the end of the year.  This unique opportunity will make it possible for discerning breeders to utilise the sought-after Ultimo and Auzengate genetics.

Epsilon's fleece stats tell the story.  In particular, please note the numbers for CF and CRV.  What the fleece stats don't tell you is how quickly his fleece grew after his quarantine shearing and that his fleece is very dense with nice bundling and excellent crimp.

Most of Ultimo's progeny have very fine fleece.  Epsilon, however, has inherited density and crimp from Auzengate and Caudillo.

We have several females for sale that have been mated to Epsilon or you can select any of our open females to be mated to him.

You are welcome to inspect Epsilon and take your own sample of his fleece for testing at our expense.

Identification CCH B0339 IAR Number 114423

Sire Canchones Criadero Provocateur

Stud fee:  Drive-by $1,000 + GST
Mobile $1,200 + GST (within 100km of Helensville)

We discovered Balducci on one of our trips to visit Robert & Peter at Canchones Alpaca Stud in Australia. Although Balducci was a significant member of the Canchones show team, we managed to talk them into selling him to us. We were primarily interested in any of the ET progeny out of Canchones Kenzoki, a beautiful black female that is seldom defeated in the Australian show circuit.

Balducci’s fleece has many of the characteristics of quality white alpacas; nice bundling, excellent crimp and above-average growth rate.   He is the only working male in New Zealand sired by Provocateur and only one of two working males out of Kenzoki.   Ferragamo, jointly owned with Sunset Alpaca Stud, is the other male out of Kenzoki.

We encourage you to consider Balducci for your next black mating and you are welcome to inspect him along with the rest of our stud team.   We also have black, brown, grey and white females mated to Balducci.

Fibre Sample taken at 1.7 years of age
AFD 23.4  SD 4.9   CV 21.3   CF 92.0  SF 22.9    CRV 30.3

Ferragamo is co-owned with Sunset Alpaca Stud, Katikati.

Ferragamo was selected on a trip to Canchones Alpaca Stud (Australia), along with his full sister Canchones Balencea ET and Balducci (see above).  Like Balducci, his selection was largely based on the fact that he was out of Canchones Kenzoki, pictured below.

Ferragamo's fleece has a bolder crimp than Balducci's and it's just slightly finer, with about the same excellent density.  Balencea (Ferragamo's full sister) was just awarded first place for her fleece at the Australia National Show 2008 as well as first place at the World Alpaca Conference International Fleece Expo in Sydney.

Gendarme, Ferragamo's sire, has been tested by Dr Jim Watts.  To date, no other black male has tested higher for follicular density.   Ferragamo is the only working male in New Zealand sired by Gendarme.   Ferragamo and Balducci (see above) are the only working males in New Zealand out of Kenzoki.

Although we aren't using Ferragamo for external matings, we do have several black, brown, grey, and white females for sale that have been mated to him.

Stud fee:  Drive-by $700 + GST
Mobile $800 + GST (within 100km of Helensville)

Comanche continues to produce a fine fleece, particularly for a coloured alpaca.  His fleece grows very quickly and has reasonable density and crimp. Although he doesn’t have any cria on the ground, he has managed to get most females pregnant on the first mating.

Like his sire, Comanche is a pleasure to handle and we anticipate that this trait will be passed on to his progeny.

Identification CKR A0003 IAR Number 80936
Phenotype Huacaya Sex Male
Colour Solid White Birth Date 1 May 2005
Sire Coricancha Brujo
Dam Shannelle Jade
Fibre Sample taken at 2.5 years of age
AFD 21.8  SD 4.5   CV 20.7   CF 96.7   SF 20.2   CRV 33.5

Yuma is co-owned with Farmaglen Alpacas, Wellsford

Stud fee:  Drive-by $600 + GST
Mobile $800 + GST (within 100km of Helensville)

Yuma is very fine, yet has the density required in a stud male.  He also has some fairly impressive genetics behind him.  Yuma's sire is Coricancha Brujo and Brujo's sire is Purrumbete  Highlander.   Yuma's dam was sired by Purrumbete Inti and her dam's mother was sired by Purrumbete Brigantine.

The lower than usual stud fee for Yuma reflects the fact that he doesn't have any progeny on the ground.

Dam Jolimont Elga
Fibre Sample taken at 2.5 years of age

Eduardo is co-owned with Sunset Alpaca Stud, Katikati.

Stud fee:  Drive-by $800 + GST
Mobile $1,000 + GST (within 100km of Helensville or Katikati)

Eduardo is packed with Accoyo genetics and has won several significant show championships. His sire (Jolimont Commisario) is one of the top males at EP Cambridge Stud in South Australia and his dam (Jolimont Elga) is one of the primary donor females in the ET programme at Silverstream. Her eighth fleece was only 24.01u, 4.57sd, 19.0cv and 90.7cf.

Eduardo's fleece growth rate is outstanding.  He was shorn after the Auckland Show and was almost over-fleeced at the Waikato's World show, seven months later.  Of course, we can't promise that he will pass that trait on to all of his progeny, but the first ones on the ground look very promising.

You are welcome to inspect Eduardo and/or any of the white, brown, grey and black females that have been mated to him.

Legacy was the first male that we purchased and we spent quite a bit of time evaluating various offerings before deciding that he was the one for us. His fifth fleece had an average micron of 23.37 with a CV of 20.1. His sire, Purrumbete Ledgers Dream, produced a 27-micron fleece with a CV of less than 19% at 14 years of age. His mother, Windsong Valley Sapphire, has consistently held her micron at 23 for the past few years.

We have several of Legacy's progeny on our farm, including a lot of females that are now pregnant to other males.  Other breeders who have used him keep coming back for more, so they must be satisfied with his offspring.

We have several white, black and brown females for sale that have been mated to Legacy.

You are welcome to inspect Legacy and his progeny by appointment.
