| As many of you know, Kikuya is a fantastic grass, in the summer. But, it is not winter friendly. When faced with our expanding herd and a shortage of winter grass, we decided to purchase another 19 acres of excellent winter grass, just a short distance from our main farm. The paddocks have been used for growing maize for at least twenty years. Last year, endophyte-free ryegrass, plantain and chicory was planted by the previous owner and our pacas will be the first livestock to graze the new growth. They took one look at the long, green grass and thought they had gone to heaven.
The additional grazing means that we are now in a much better position to provide agistment services for any alpacas purchased using our 90% financing scheme. It also means that we will soon be announcing additional services that should be of interest to breeders in our area.
