To all of you who visited our farm on National Alpaca Day, many thanks for making the trip to South Head. We were overwhelmed by the response, with 192 cars coming through our gate. Whether you are just learning about alpacas or looking for some advice regarding animals that you already own, you'll be able to ask all of your questions at our open day. Please note that our open day will be at 1735 South Head Road, about 20 minutes north of Helensville. We'll have alpaca fibre, professionally processed yarn and over 170 alpacas waiting to meet you. If you make the trip to see us, be sure to drive another 4km to visit Waitakere Alpacas at 107 Monk Road. They, too, have over 170 alpacas plus their alpaca shop is exceptionally well stocked with beautiful garments and accessories made from alpaca fleece. Both farms open at 10:00 AM and will be well sign posted. We finally made some time to update our Stud Services page. We still have several males to be added, but we have turned on the new page so you can have a sneak preview. We have changed the format of our "Alpacas for Sale" page. Until recently, we were attempting to maintain a listing of specific alpacas for sale. But it became impossible. Females give birth, get re-mated, increase in value as they get closer to unpacking and change fleece stats. Trying to maintain these details for visitors to the site became too difficult. Have a look at the new format and let us know what you think. We just returned from Whangarei, where our show team made us very proud. Eduardo won "Best Huacaya Composite" and "Champion Huacaya Fleece". Two of our females sired by Legacy won red ribbons in their respective classes as well as a red ribbon for Legacy in the "Sires Progeny" class....moreBefore bringing three recently-purchased alpacas home from Australia, we decided to take them to the Australian National Show for one more chance in the ring. They rewarded us with one 1st place ribbon and two 3rd place ribbons in the excellent classes of black alpacas....more We just started agisting Australian alpacas in transit to the UK and Europe and that meant that we needed more land. Fortunately, a neighbour agreed to sell us another 15 acres. That's the good news. The bad news is that we find ourselves busy killing weeds, putting in more fencing, and building barns and shelters. When it's all finished, we'll be able to handle a steady stream of Europe-bound alpacas from Australia or New Zealand. After they spend five months with us, these visiting alpacas are shifted just one kilometre down the road to Waitakere Alpacas for 40 days of total isolation.
Until recently, our stud team consisted of four working males and four males just waiting to be old enough. That changed about two months ago with the selection of two black ET boys from Canchones and we are looking forward to their arrival in late November. Just to make things more interesting, we are expecting another 12 males to arrive from Australia at the end of OctoberWe've been busy updating our sales pages. to see our females for sale or to see our selection of pet and stud-quality males. We took three alpacas to Expo 06 and the Canterbury Royal A&P Show and came home with five ribbons. Niska took first place in her class (intermediate brown female) at Canterbury and fifth at Expo. Comanche came in fourth in his class (junior medium-fawn male) at Expo and Canterbury. Vixen (junior white female) took fifth place in her class at Expo. These are only modest wins, although the competition would have been amongst the best in New Zealand.
